SHOT REVERSE SHOT - IN MORE DETAIL

Shot reverse shot is where one character is shown looking at another character (often off-screen), and then the other character is shown looking back at the first character.

It's simply shown by an over the shoulder shot and as they're shown facing each other, the viewer assumes that they're looking at each other.

In the second image, the action continues as she's responding to what I'm telling her. This is use of match on action.

NOTE TO SELF:

In films/tv shows match on action shots could've been filmed at completely different times but it doesn't matter, just as long as it continues the previous actions being done.

I've used the same images for the example of 180 degree rule. In the first image, it shows me speaking to Zara.

Shot reverse shot... what is it?

Here is a short clip from a film that briefly outlines the shot reverse shot rule; from 0:15 to 0:22 seconds you will see the rule being used.
