But to get get a brief idea of how fonts are used to create meaning in films, we were asked to look at films that have fonts which send a message across/foreshadow events.
When making a film/opening sequence, font is very important as it sets some sort of meaning and can foreshadow the events.
So, what is a font?

The 'MISS' part - The shape of the S is curvy/edgy- could suggest that she's a woman that's quite dangerous.
Here, the illustrators have used sans serif font
The font has changed when we go on to 'MEADOWS' - the font has decreased in size.
The letters 'O' and 'W' are revealed in a sort of a 'blueprint' look because it looks unappealing,-this could suggest that there's that sinister aspect of the protagonist.
The 'E.T' bit is in a large font as well as it being in a crayon/spray paint kind of font- this could show the ambiguity of alien life.
Serif font is being used here.
The colour of the font reveals the setting of the film. We instantly get the idea of a space setting/absence from earth.
The fact that they've placed the font in the middle suggests that the extra-terrestrials are going to be the protagonists and that the film is going to be based about them.
We're going to include text in our opening sequence, so we've decided to choose a font that's related to our genre/film - Because our genre is sci-fi/adventure with dystopia elements involved, we're planning to pick a font that's sans serif, pixelated and medium in size.
